Helen Kell Safer Internet Day 2009 February 11, 2009 12:43 PM
Yesterday was Safer Internet Day 2009, an event organised by InSafe, a network of countries within the EU that are committed to Internet Safety. The aim of the event is to highlight safety online issues to all but especially to children and young people. If you would like to find out more, then check out the links page on this website which has details of many of the Internet Safety organisations. I have also uploaded some posters and safety leaflets to the resources section for anyone to down load.

Helen Kell Web 2.0 for Social Change February 05, 2009 9:34 AM
Marc, the broker for West Wales, has found some interesting resources about web 2.0 tools. The first is a facilitator’s guide from Taking IT Global about how web 2.0 tools can be used for social change. A copy of this guide can be found in the community resources section of the document.

The guide also has a list of links to web 2.0 sites for you to explore. One of these links is Go To Web 2.0 – a directory of all the web 2.0 tools available at the moment. It is definitely worth a look.

Helen Kell ICT resources in Blaenau Gwent February 04, 2009 1:15 PM
Part of my remit as a broker in Blaenau Gwent was to map the public access points for ICT in the county.  Using Google Maps, I was able to make a virtual map of where each ICT centre was and make the information public on the Internet.  To see the map, please click on the link below.

Helen Kell Useful Software CDs January 20, 2009 5:27 PM
Communities @One, in partnership with the Novas Scarman Group, have developed a set of CDs full of useful software and information. The aim of the CD is to produce a resource that is relevant and practical to the community and voluntary sector.

The three disc set includes free open source software such as Open Office, anti virus tools, music and image software and games. It also contains information on funding for ICT, toolkits on community projects, using adaptive technologies and internet safety.

If you would like a copy of the CD, or already have one and would like to give feedback, please drop me an e-mail on helen.kell@walescoop.com.

Communities @One funded young film-makers from Tonypandy Community College are having their film screen at the Co-op Young Film-Makers' festival in Bradford 9 & 10 October 2008.  The girls involved in the project worked with Tantrwm Films and Aberdare band, Sal.  The band's song, "Devil May Care" was chosen to be the theme song of the new James Bond audio book earlier this year, and the Tonypandy students have made a stunning video, using green screen technology to full effect!
